# What is Workaround?

> A temporary way for a customer to get unblocked before a real fix ships.

A workaround is an alternate approach that avoids a bug or limitation, such as a different API call, a setting change, or a manual step, while the permanent fix is pending.

## Why it matters

A good workaround turns an urgent escalation into a routine one. Customers care most about being unblocked.

## Best practices

1. Offer it with the diagnosis. Don't wait for the fix.
2. Document it on the known issue. So every agent can use it.
3. Follow up when the fix ships. Let customers drop the workaround.

## How Decimal helps

Decimal suggests workarounds grounded in how the code actually behaves, and attaches them to the issue for the rest of the team.
